Question:
Hello!
I've felt this obe sensation few times in my life, but for
three months I began too feel it almost every week. I was
frightened because i didn't know what happened to me, but
now i discovered your site and now i can understand but only
a little and i am still scared. First of all, i thaght it
is a problem with my heart and it stops during night, but
now i am a little confused. Every time i have an obe i get
scared and struggle to wake up and i wake myself in sleep
paralyse.I would like to continue my obe but i'm very scared
of what will happen next. How can i wake up then?
And i have one more question: can i feel obe while not
sleeping by a self induced sensation or something like
these, for example like lying on the bed, closing my eyes
and trying to get out of my body?
Thank you very much.
I hope your advise can make me no more beeing frightened
because of the obe.
Answer:
The sleep paralysis is a normal state, it just
means mind and body are temporarily out of sync -
since mind is responsible for keeping body paralyzed
during sleep and active once awake.
There's nothing dangerous about sleep paralysis,
once you know what it is. For me, it was source
if nightmares, but now I look forward to it, since
it's a perfect state for inducing an OBE.
Depending on what you want, you could do one of these
when sleep paralysis comes:
1) Give it time and you will either fall asleep or
wake up fully.
2) Mentally say "I am floating up" and you will have
an out-of-body experience.
As for your question about self-induced OBE - this seems
to work for some people, but I haven't had much success
with that. Seems like I have to fall asleep for a while,
then wake up in OBE-ready state.
Good luck,
Andy

Question:
Hi Andy,
I am wondering if you could maybe give me some advise. I
never know quiet how to describe my dreams, not sure if it's
sleep paralysis, obe or lucid dreaming. The whole concept
confuses me as i have these dreams quit often, i am afraid
of having them, they frighten me extremley. I always
experience myself waking up and looking around my room, soon
i realise that i am actually not awake, my body feels heavy,
i my heartbeat starts racing. Whenever i realise that it i
am not really awake yet i start screaming, i then realise
that i am not screaming in reality. I try so hard to wake
up, i never get out of bed, although i feel that my body
wants to leave the bed, i am always to afraid. I feel these
stange sensations through my entire body, especially my
head, a kind of prickaly feeling. I awake in absolute
panic. Sometimes it takes me ages to wake up, it always
fees like an eternal struggle. I can imagine though that
this entire proccess only takes but a few minutes. At times
i assume that i have woken up only to find out that the
dream is repeating itself. I don't know if this entire
process is a dream of reality. It all started 4 years ago,
for no particular reason. I am afraid of these experiences
that i am having, would love for them to go away. Could you
maybe give me some advise on what i am experiencing and on
how to prevent.
Kind regards
M.
Answer:
M,
I couldn't reach you by email, so I am posting response here.
The experiences you describing seem to fit in 2 categories that
I've gone through as well:
1) Sleep Paralysis.
As you know, when we sleep, our body is paralyzed. This is a
defense mechanism, to prevent stuff like sleepwalking.
The sleep paralysis seems to occur when we are between states/
out of sync. Normal sleep is the 'mind asleep, body asleep'
state, while sleep paralysis is 'mind awake, body asleep'.
This used to be a nightmare for me, until I've learned that
this state can be a launchpad for an exciting Out of Body Experience.
So, seems like you can go 2 ways, based on your goals:
a) If you'd like to explore the OBE, take advantage of the
sleep paralysis state. Try to raise your 'mental body' out of
bed, while your 'physical body' stays down.
You can also use an affirmation, like "I am floating up".
b) If you prefer the simpler route, remind yourself that this
is a normal, harmless state. Stay in it until you either fall
asleep again or your body awakes.
2) False Awakening.
This is the state where I think I've awaken, and begin to go through
the motions of the day, only to find out that I am asleep.
This is annoying, because a dream should be more exciting that
just brushing teeth and going to a work.
It can also be scary when you are trying to awake for real, but can't.
The best way to go seems to convert false awakening into a lucid dream.
Realize that you are dreaming and you can do whatever you want by
performing one of the 'dream checks':
I. Look at your palm for 5-10 secons. In a dream, the
number of fingers
can be wrong, picture can be fuzzy, etc.
II. Look at your watch for a while. In a dream, the clock
hands do not behave correctly.
III. Look at some text for few secs. In a dream, the text
will begin changing.
Good luck!
Andy
Question:
How can I have my first OBE ?
Answer:
As you may have read on my web page, for me the breaking
point was being able to tell when my mind is beginning
drift away and make pictures. This is when the imagination
is versatile enough to imagine leaving the body - so, the
OBE occurs.
Also, it helps to recognize the moments when body has fallen
asleep. Just yesterday, I was lying in my bed and one of my hands
began 'falling asleep'. After that I imagined the second hand
feeling the same way - and soon after that, I was able to
lift my 'mental hands'. Once this happens, it's a matter of
affirming "I am rising up". Or, if entire body is asleep at that
point, try using your muscles to get up. The body won't respond,
but if you apply enough effort, the 'mental body' will begin
moving out of physical one.
Another method would be mastering the Lucid Dreams.
( See http://personal-freedom.org/empower/lucid )
Becoming Lucid is easier than OBE, so it could be a
a stepping stone for you. Once lucid, affirmation like "I am rising
up" or "I am leaving body" can lead to OBE.
